Elitec
(2007 - 2008)
Elitec was a small Estonian web studio operating in the local market in 2007-2008 and partly connected to Medicum. The company combined short-term client projects on a custom CMS and LAMP stack with support for more complex systems in the government and healthcare sectors. Notable work included a Google Calendar-like calendar module, registration systems for Medicum and Silmalaser.ee, and support for RMK.ee document management, which was originally developed at ADM Interactive.
My experience
This was an early stage of my career, after which I moved on to long-term product projects. One memorable detail is that, to get the job, I had to write an e-commerce prototype in PHP in three hours.
- Developed short-term projects on a custom CMS (LAMP stack)
- Developed a calendar module for the CMS with a draggable Google Calendar-like UI
- Supported the RMK.ee document management system (Postgres)
- Gained experience with SVN, Oracle, PHP Zend Framework and Prototype.js
Projects
| Name | Description |
|---|---|
| ⭐️ RMK | Internal document system for the Estonian State Forest Management Center. Like EIQA, the project was initially developed at ADM Interactive, but when the volume of work exceeded a reasonable support scope, development was handed over to third parties. PostgreSQL, custom templates, lots of legacy code, gigabyte-sized databases, CVS branching. |
| ⭐️ Medicum registration | Very large Oracle 9 database of clients, schedules and doctors. Reworked an outdated registration system. Two independent companies estimated the work at more than 800,000 kroons. |
| NSA.ee | Information site for the Ministry of Defense. Migrated the site from its existing engine to Joomla. Completed it in about 10 hours: transferred the design, updated the menu and content, and worked through the CMS. |
| Silmalaser.ee | Medical vision-correction company. Oracle registration module integrated with MIS (the Medicum information system). Built a PEAR-like business-logic layer (Model in MVC) and tried xajax for forms. |
| Calendar | Ajax calendar module functionally similar to Google Calendar and Kiko. Used Scriptaculous for drag-and-drop events, email invitations, iCal compatibility with MS Outlook and user free/busy views. |
| Registration system | Conceptually similar to the Medicum registration system, but based on MySQL and using one working-time range instead of pre-generated free slots. |
